A Jamaican pastor currently based in the United States has been listed as a person of interest in the police’s investigation into the mummified remains of a woman that was discovered in Westmoreland.
The body of Viola Destin was discovered in the Old Hope district of Little London on July 6. Following the arrest of Destin’s two caregivers, 54-year-old Gena Robinson and 49-year-old Lavern Wedderburn, the authorities believe Pastor Delroy Jones can significantly assist them with their investigation.
It is believed that Jones is currently residing in Colorado, and he is being asked to make contact with the authorities regarding the death and concealment of Destin’s body. Destin was originally a resident of the Good Hope district in the parish.
According to Destin’s grandniece, the elderly woman experienced mental issues while she was going through menopause. As a result of these issues, she momentarily resided with different family members.
According to the Savanna-La-Mar police, Wedderburn, a resident of Rocky Hill in Sheffield, saw Destin begging in Savanna-La-Mar in 2023. She later told Robinson about Destin, and the pair went on to seek advice from a pastor overseas.
Per his instructions, the women began taking care of Destin. However, shortly after, she became very ill, and they moved her into Robinson’s house at Old Hope. Destin later died on December 10, 2023.
After she passed away, Robinson and Wedderburn hid her body in a room at the home and used chemicals and baking soda to prevent it from smelling. It was a relative of Robinson who discovered Destin’s remains on July 6 and alerted the police.
Following their arrest, Wedderburn and Robinson were both charged on Tuesday. Reports state that both women confessed to the role they played in the concealment of Destin’s body during a question-and-answer session.
The women have been slapped with multiple charges, including concealment of a corpse, preventing the lawful burial of a corpse, and perverting the course of justice.
