The sixty-four-year-old alleged leader of the Burgher Gully gang was shot and killed by the police in Kingston on Thursday morning.
The deceased man has been identified as Christopher Murray, who was also known by the alias ‘Muslin’. The incident occurred along Burgher Avenue in Rollington Town in East Kingston at about 6:00 am.
According to reports, the police were conducting an intelligence-led operation in the community in search of firearms when they went to a premises on Burgher Avenue. After the officers knocked on the door, Murray allegedly immediately opened fire on them.
The officers returned the fire, and the alleged gang leader was shot in the upper body. Reports state that Murray was carrying a .38 revolver containing four live rounds and two spent casings, which was seized by the police.
Murray was transported to the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH), where he was pronounced dead. The Burgher Gully gang has been linked to murders, shootings, robberies and other serious crimes in East Kingston for a number of years.
In 2020, People’s National Party (PNP) activist and then-reputed leader of the Burgher Gully gang, Devon Murray, was killed by gunmen. Devon was reportedly visiting the Homestead Road area of East Kingston when he was shot by unknown assailants.
