The police are currently investigating the kidnapping of a Westmoreland businessman who was abducted by gunmen on Tuesday morning in Darliston.
The man has been identified as Gavin Myers, the owner of a car mart located in the Darliston town centre. Reports state that armed men barged into the car mart while Myers was at work at about 7 a.m. and forced him away.
The Westmoreland police are leading the investigation into Myers’ kidnapping. The businessman’s abduction follows the kidnapping of a Westmoreland teacher last month. The police theorise that that incident was arranged by an incarcerated gang leader.
The woman was forcibly removed from her car by three assailants on May 8. She was later transported to a community in Pell River, Hanover, where the police found her unarmed during a rescue operation that same day.
Two of her alleged kidnappers were fatally shot during the rescue operation, while the police later killed a third during a confrontation on a subsequent operation.
Myers’ abduction also comes amid the ongoing search for missing Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) election worker Lorna ‘Nikki’ Robertson. Robertson was attacked and forced into a van along Hope Road, in the vicinity of the Diabetes Association of Jamaica, in St. Andrew on May 30.
