Two People Injured, Several Homes Destroyed in Red Hills Road Fire

Ten people have been left homeless following a massive fire that destroyed multiple homes in St. Andrew.

According to reports, the blaze started at about 10:00 a.m on Thursday at 41 and a half Red Hills Road, Cassia Park. During the blaze, six homes were engulfed by flames.

A total of 17 firefighters from the Half Way Tree, York Park and Trench Town fire stations were at the scene working to stop the blaze from spreading further. No fatalities were reported; however, two people were reportedly injured during the fire.

A ninety-year-old elderly woman is said to be one of the residents in the community left homeless after the fire. According to the People’s National Party (PNP) caretaker candidate for the area, Dennis Gordon, over $1 million has already been approved to help the residents rebuild.

“Based on what I am seeing, it’s a devastation. So immediately, having discussion with the residents who are impacted, they want to build back. So I approved $1 million worth of material at Dunn’s, so they can start to go and collect those materials to start rebuilding. I suspect that some of them would have lost everything, so I leave another $100,000 for them to buy some food. I’ve already reached out to the social security people to come and see what they can do. But from my own grant, I’ve given them $1.1 million and I will continue to monitor, and whatever else I can do, I will do it,” Gordon shared with Radio Jamaica News.
