Taxi Driver and Teacher Shot and Killed in St. James

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder of a man and a woman along Guinep Tree Lane, Montpelier, St James, on Wednesday.

The deceased man and woman have been identified as 36-year-old taxi driver Mathew Chin, and 36-year-old teacher Vanessa Williams. Both Williams and Chin were residents of Montpelier.

Reports state that residents in the community heard explosions at approximately 10:12 p.m. and later notified the police. After the police arrived at the location, Williams’ body was found lying face down beside a Toyota Voxy motorcar.

Chin was found slumped over the steering wheel of the vehicle. Both victims had gunshot wounds. Williams and Chin were later transported to a hospital where medical staff pronounced them dead.

According to initial unconfirmed reports, Chin and Williams had attended a church crusade in Mount Carey on the night of their murder. Chin was reportedly dropping off Williams at her home when they were shot and killed by unknown assailants.
