The Bog Walk police have launched an investigation into the death of a man in St. Catherine after he allegedly tried to kill his uncle with a machete.
The deceased has been identified as Demar Facey. The 31-year-old was a labourer and a resident of Swamp Lane, Bog Walk. The identity of his uncle has not yet been disclosed.
According to initial reports, Facey and his uncle resided on the same family property in the community. The pair, whose relatives had reportedly migrated abroad, had been involved in a conflict over the land for some time.
According to residents in the community, days before the incident occurred on Tuesday, Facey was allegedly seen sharpening a machete. He also allegedly expressed in anger his intentions to kill his uncle.
Reports state that at approximately 8:30 a.m. yesterday Facey was at his uncle’s residence when the pair began arguing over the property. After Facey reportedly attacked his uncle with the machete, the man pulled out his licensed firearm and shot him.
Both men were transported to the Linstead Hospital to receive treatment for their injuries. However, Facey later succumbed to his gunshot wounds.
His uncle, who is reportedly receiving treatment for a chop wound from his head down to his back, remains hospitalised.
