A man employed as a linesman fell to his death in Portmore, St. Catherine, during a squall that caused storm-like conditions in sections of Jamaica on Monday.
According to reports, the deceased, 55-year-old Devon Cunningham, was employed as a linesman for Mike’s WiFi. He was reportedly running a wire while on a ladder during the squall’s strong winds.
The exact circumstances of Cunningham’s death are not yet known, but two theories have emerged since his death. Some accounts of what happened suggest that the strong winds caused Cunningham to lose his balance on the ladder he was using, and he fell.
Another theory that has emerged is that a section of the wire that the linesman was working on was snagged by a delivery driver who was passing by. This may have caused Cunningham to become entangled and then lose his balance.
Cunningham’s wife, Roxann Humphery-Cunningham, shared that her husband broke his leg as well as his jaw during the fall.
“When I went to the hospital, his clothes were filled with blood and rain, dirt… His face was dirty. He fell hard… He broke his leg, he broke his jaw, and he fell on his face,” she shared.
The Portmore police are currently investigating what caused Cunningham’s fall.
