Angry residents of Lucky Street and Pitter Lane took to the streets of Knockpatrick, Manchester, on Tuesday as they protested the shooting of their fellow resident Moses Morgan.
Carrying placards accusing the police of murdering Morgan, the residents blocked off a part of the Knockpatrick main road. Morgan was fatally shot during an alleged confrontation with the police while at his house.
During today’s protest, one of Morgan’s reported family members accused the police of killing him in cold blood after stealing his goat.
“They killed my cousin cold-blooded and said they find gun pon him and dem nuh find nuh gun. Just because dem thief him goat and him leave and go a Mandeville fi go do him little hustling and the police dem come and see him. Carry him a him yard, inna him house and kill him and say a shoot out,” Morgan’s relative at the protest said.
Morgan was employed as a farmer and a higgler. According to the woman, Morgan was allegedly targeted because he began speaking out about the theft of his goat. The woman went on to accuse the police of threatening another one of her relatives.
““A justice we want. Him did have the right and dem kill him. We want justice and a we block the road. Now the police come and say him ago kill me cousin and make him lie down a Lyn’s like Osah,” she stated.
Other residents joined her in condemning the police and said that Morgan was an innocent man. According to the police’s version of events, officers on patrol followed Morgan to his home after observing him acting suspiciously.
After the officers entered his home, there was a struggle between the officers and Morgan, and he allegedly reached for one of their weapons and was shot. The police reportedly seized a gun from the scene of the shooting.
