In what has been described as one of the largest weapon seizures in the country’s history, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) seized over 200 firearms and rounds of ammunition at a port warehouse in Kingston.
The JCF has not yet released an official statement on the major gun seizure. Per Caribbean News Weekly, the guns were seized during a joint operation between the JCF, the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID), and the Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA).
The specific date and time of the operation have not yet been disclosed, but it was conducted at a warehouse on Industrial Terrace in West Kingston this week.
The firearms, which reportedly exceed 220 guns, including high-powered weapons, were hidden inside an industrial-sized water heater. Among the contraband seized were pistols, high-powered rifles, and firearm accessories.
In addition to the firearms, an estimated 10,000 rounds of ammunition were also seized at the warehouse. Four other water heaters, which the authorities believe also contain contraband, were also found at the warehouse.
The shipment reportedly originated from the United States and is being investigated by local and U.S. authorities. A source with knowledge of the operation shared with The Jamaica Observer that the seizure may be a record for the JCF.
“This could be a record. It is a massive, massive find… It has to be some major players in the illegal gun trade involved,” the source reportedly said.
This week’s gun seizure follows an increase in interceptions of illegal shipments at Jamaican ports. 148 illegal firearms and over 7,000 rounds of ammunition were seized by the JCF and JCA between December 2024 and March 2025.
