Fiery Protest Erupts in Grant’s Pen After Police Fatal Shooting: Video

Angry residents took to the streets on Wednesday after a man was fatally shot during an alleged confrontation with the police in Grants Pen, St Andrew.

According to reports, the police encountered the now deceased man, Jadean Gooden, while they were visiting a premises in the community. Gooden, also known as ‘Six’, was allegedly armed and pointed his firearm at the officers.

The officers took evasive action, fatally shooting Gooden. Gooden’s alleged weapon was seized. Following the shooting this morning, residents accused the police of wrongdoing and set fire to debris they used to block sections of the road.

Gooden’s death is currently under investigation by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM). The shooting of the Grants Pen resident is one of three police-related fatalities that occurred over the past 24 hours, which is being investigated by INDECOM.

One of the incidents occurred on Tuesday in Old Harbour, St. Catherine, while the other happened today in Jerusalem Mountain, Westmoreland. While the identity of the deceased in the Westmoreland shooting has not yet been disclosed, the man who was killed in Old Harbour has been identified as Shaquille Johnson.

Johnson’s hands were swabbed for gunshot residue, and similar evidence collection is expected to be taken in the other shootings. According to INDECOM, the officers involved in the shootings have been served with notices to submit statements and attend interviews.
