Woman Killed After Allegedly Attacking Officer with Machete During Domestic Dispute

A woman was shot and killed after she allegedly attacked the father of her child, a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), with a machete on Thursday.

The officer, a constable, was not identified by name, but the deceased has been identified as Janice Francis. The thirty-eight-year-old was a cosmetologist who resided at the Masemure housing scheme in Little London, Westmoreland. The constable also reportedly resided there with her.

According to reports, the officer arrived home at approximately 7:50 p.m. last night when the incident happened. Francis, who is said to have been armed with a machete at the time, allegedly pounced on the constable after his arrival.

It is not yet clear if Francis and her child’s father had an argument upon his arrival or if the couple had any prior disagreements before yesterday’s altercation. Reports state that Francis took away the policeman’s firearm during the incident, after which a tussle ensued.

During the tussle, the officer sustained a gunshot to his right hand, and Francis was shot multiple times in her upper body. She was later pronounced dead after she was transported to a hospital.

The constable was admitted to the hospital for treatment.
