Following the abduction of a teacher last week, her third alleged kidnapper was killed during a police confrontation Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified as Omar Johnson. The teacher, whose identity has not been shared, was abducted on May 8 while driving in Grange Hill, Westmoreland.
Johnson and other armed gunmen reportedly blocked off the road with a log so they could force her out of her car. She was later rescued unharmed during a police operation in Hanover.
Two of her kidnappers, 21-year-old Kevin ‘Josh’ Gordon and 27-year-old Christopher ‘Bubba’ Williams, were shot and killed during the rescue operation. Johnson and another man reportedly fled the scene before they could be captured by police.
Acting on intelligence gathered during their investigation, the police tracked Johnson down to a premises in Pell River at approximately 10:30 p.m. last night. Upon finding Johnson at the location, the police reportedly asked him to surrender peacefully.
Johnson allegedly did not comply, and he was shot during the confrontation. According to the authorities, an illegal firearm and ammunition were seized at the scene of the incident.
It is not yet known if Johnson had a criminal background. However, one of his alleged accomplices, Gordon, was out on bail for a 2023 murder.
The teacher’s kidnapping was allegedly orchestrated by an imprisoned high-ranking member of the Kings Valley gang.
