Reggae music lovers have been saddened by the passing of the legend Cocoa Tea. It was confirmed that he passed away at Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale sometime between 4:40 to 5:00 am.
The veteran singer was 65 years old.
His wife, Malvia Scott stated that he was transferred to the hospital because he was vomiting. He was initially diagnosed with lymphoma in 2019, but for the last six months he was also struggling with pneumonia.
The I Am The Toughest singer stayed hopeful even until the end.
Malvia the mother of three of Cocoa Tea’s children stated that “he was very brave“. He was optimistic throughout it all.
The reggae legend born in Rocky Point Clarendon on September 3, 1959, started making his name in jamaica from, 1985 with hits like Nah Give Up, She Loves Me Now, Good Life and Sweet Sweet Cocoa Tea.
In March 2008, the name Cocoa Tea was on the lips of many persons after he released a song titled Barack Obama, in support of the then US presidential candidate, who subsequently won the elections.
His last performance was three years ago on the Welcome to Jamrock cruise. In 2019 the Hurry up and Come singer performed at Buju Banton’s historic Long Walk to Freedom concert at the National Stadium in Kingston.
Cocoa Tea is survived by his wife Malvia and eight children.
