Policeman shot dead during gas station robbery

A policeman was shot and killed during an armed robbery at a Texaco gas station in St. Andrew on Friday night.

The incident happened at the intersection of East and Beechwood Avenue at around 10:53pm.

The deceased has been identified as 47-year-old Corporal Christopher Smith assigned to the West Kingston division.

The incident was caught on CCTV and was released to the public.

The video shows Corporal Smith unknowingly driving onto the scene of an active robbery while off duty.

The gunman, clad in a gray hoodie, immediately approached the Corporal’s vehicle, opened the door, saw his service weapon, and shot him multiple times.

The gunman then took his weapon and fled the scene in a waiting motor vehicle with four other armed men.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force has launched a manhunt for those involved.
