A police officer was on Monday shot dead at the Halfway Tree Police Station in a case of murder-suicide.
The officer was identified as Detective Sergeant Kevin Mayne assigned to the St. Andrew Central Area 4 Division.
Reports are that Sergeant Mayne was escorting a reputed con man and businessman identified as Deon Singh on the compound of the Halfway Tree Police station at around 6:00 pm.
Singh is the owner of Singh’s Motors Limited on Hagley Park Road in St. Andrew.
While taking Mr. Singh in custody, another officer assisted the Sergeant and was disarmed by the businessman.
Sergeant Mayne was then shot by Mr. Singh multiple times in the upper body.
Singh then turned the weapon to his head and shot himself.
They both died on the spot.
Sergeant Mayne had a case before the court with Dave Singh and was taking him back into custody.
