4000 inmates escape from prison in Haiti

A State Of Emergency was declared in Haiti after almost 4000 inmates escaped after an attack on two prisons.

The 72-hour state of emergency went into immediate effect after the attack and the rise in violence.

The violent gang was led by Jimmy Cherizier, a former police officer popularly known as ‘Barbecue’.

The gangs are pushing for the resignation of Prime Minister, Ariel Henry.

The Government said the prison attacks have left several prison staff and inmates injured.

Around 3800 inmates had escaped while another 100 remained in their cells in fear of getting hit in a crossfire.

The National Police are encouraging law-abiding citizens to continue believing in the police force as they work diligently to capture the culprits.
